Subsequently, the "ZINGARO" ORIENTED NATURE RESERVE was officially established in 1981, the first reserve in Sicily entrusted to the management of the Regional State Forestry Company.

The area of the Reserve falls largely within the municipality of San Vito lo Capo and to a lesser extent in the municipality of Castellammare Del Golfo. Inside the reserve there are the Naturalistic Museum, the Museum of Marine Activities, the Museum of Civilization, the Environmental Education Center, two equipped areas and rural buildings used as bivouacs.
